Support Princeton Borough Trees

TREE INVENTORY PROGRAM

Starting in May 2010 and through the summer, the Princeton Borough Shade Tree Commission inventoried all trees in the public right of way.  Over the winter, Commission members completed and verified the results.

The database produced will be used primarily for proactive maintenance of the Borough’s trees and to provide guidance for future planting.

Reports generated from the inventory will enable Borough staff to prioritize, schedule and budget tree-related tasks more effectively. These reports will also give citizen volunteers and residents accurate information about their urban forest: which species are planted, where they are located, their age, etc.

The Shade Tree Commission is now compiling the results from the survey, and will post information on this web site as it becomes available.  It plans to create educational information and materials that will enable residents to use this special resource.

The plan was approved by the New Jersey Community Forestry Program in 2009 under the New Jersey Shade Tree and Community Forestry Assistance Act and entitles Princeton to certain protections and support by the state.
